But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry (2 Timothy 4:5 NIV). In the 2023 survey of Seventh-day Adventist pastors worldwide, pastors were asked a number of questions about their evangelistic endeavors over the past 12 months. Number of One-to-one … Continued
My message to ministers, young and old, is this: Guard jealously your hours for prayer, Bible study, and self-examination. Set aside a portion of each day for a study of the Scriptures and communion with God. Thus you will obtain spiritual strength, and will grow in favor with God (Ellen G. White, Gospel Workers, p. … Continued
Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Savior mingled with people as one who desired their good. He showed sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He invited them, “Follow Me.” Ellen G. White, The Ministry of Healing, p. 143. The Gospels do not describe … Continued
Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding (Jeremiah 3:15 NIV). Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1 ESV). Missionary work—introducing our publications into families, conversing, and praying with and for them—is a good work and one which will educate men and women to do pastoral labor (Ellen … Continued
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11–12 NKJV). Most of us occasionally ask ourselves whether we are in the right career: whether we have … Continued
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24 NKJV). The Seventh-day Adventist Church teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman, and is a lifelong commitment. Fundamental Belief 23, entitled “Marriage and the Family,” states that “marriage was … Continued
The formation of small companies as a basis of Christian effort is a plan that has been presented before me by One who cannot err. If there is a large number in the church, let the members be formed into small companies, to work not only for the church members but for unbelievers also (Ellen … Continued
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:19–20, NKJV). Prayer and Bible study … Continued
